THE REFRIGERATOR PROJECT

Sometimes the projects you do on a whim can sometimes wind up being the best!
My husband and I are always on a perpetual working basis on our little beach condo and here of late we have been putting a lot of our energy into the kitchen. This ho-hum white refrigerator came with the condo when I purchased it. A few years ago I replaced the stove and went with black, as you can see. Having a black stove and white fridge right next to each other has been bugging the hell out of me for some time now. A few months ago, when I was opening the fridge door, the handle just broke right off! Then, about a month later I dropped a bottle of tea and shattered the glass top to the crisper inside the fridge. Obviously its about time to replace the fridge, but in the mean time, why not have a little fun with it!

Here is the before shot of our ugly fridge. Keep in mind that our kitchen is far from being finished. We still have hideous counter tops and flooring!

My little friend; Chalkboard paint!

And here is the finished result! I like it a lot! I still have a few little touch ups to paint on the trim and such, but you get the general idea.

I wrote one of my favorite poems on the front and put a conversion chart on the side

We bought these little magnetic tins at Ikea for only a few bucks. Works great for holding the chalk.
Does any one else have any fun Chalkboard paint stories?
PS. For those of you who are interested, here is the poem that I wrote on the front. These are lyrics from a Kurt Elling song that I just love.
I wait to sleep

I wait to sleep,And take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I can not fear.
I learn by going where I have to go.

We think by feeling,
But what is there to know.
I hear my being dance from ear to ear.
I wait to sleep,
And take my waking slow.

Of those so close beside me,
Which are you?
God bless the ground,
I shall walk softly there,
And learn by going where I have to go.

Great nature has another thing to do to you and me.
So take the lively air,
And lovely, learn by going where to go.
Lovely, learn by going where to go.

This shaking keeps me steady.
I should know.
What falls away is always, and is near.
I wait to sleep,
And take my waking slow.
