RE-INVENTING A HOME

Now that my husband and I are married, we have started talking about how much longer we are going to spend in this little beach condo that we like to call "Casa Del Playa."  Let me just say this, I love my home!  This was my very first home purchase when I was 22 years old.  Casa Del Playa has housed me through college, and been my refuge for so many years now.  I have ripped her apart and put her back together, and I'm just now seeing the possible end to her remodeling in the near future.   So I figure, we will spend the next 5 years or so living here.  Maybe less, maybe more, who's to say.  I would like to keep her as long as possible, maybe even forever.  Shell make a wonderful vacation home, guest house, rental........ there are options..... right?
.
Anyway, since the idea of moving out of Casa Del Playa has been a recent subject, I have started thinking.  What kind of a home do I see myself living in?  What kind of home would give me tons of creative freedom, and space to grow?  Then, just the other day while skimming some of my favorite blogs, I found this great post about a couple who renovated an old industrial building into their home.   Bells went off!  Ding Ding Ding!  Why didn't I think about this before?  For as long as I can remember I have dreamed about turning unconventional buildings into my home.   When I was a child and my parents used to drag me to church, I used to think about turning the chapel into my personal bedroom.  I would put my bed right up on the pedestal!  I ran the idea past my husband and bells went off for him too!  He told me that he used to fantasize about turning his old school into his own personal home.  Yeah!  Indoor pool!!
.
Here are some inspirational pictures of industrial spaces that ether have amazing potential or have already been transformed into magical living spaces.   Pay attention to all the wonderful architectural bones these buildings have.  Just amazing!
.
Enjoy!

The building above is actually an industrial warehouse in the Sodo district of Seattle.  It has been lightly refurbished and can be rented out for weddings and events.  My husband and I considered this space for our wedding.  I love the rafters and old windows.

Cheers!

WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM!!!!

I have a confession...... The truth is, I know you all feel the same way I feel, whether you admit it or not!  Ice cream taste's soooooooooooo much better when its cold out side!  I couldn't tell you exactly why it is so, maybe the cold just makes the flavors pop!  Or, maybe its just our body telling us to fatten up to stay warmer!  For whatever reason it is, I find myself day dreaming about ice cream all the time during the cold season, and boy has it been cold here lately in Seattle!
.
Last night, I had dinner with my wonderful friend Auna up on Queen Anne.  After dinner we went for a walk and did a little window shopping.  Then, we bumped into this!

A Molly Moon's ice cream truck!!!!!!!!!!!!
Molly Moon's, I personally believe, is one of the most amazing ice cream experiences one could possibly have.  Their are two shops here in Seattle, one on Capitol Hill and the other in Wallingford, but I never knew there was an ICE CREAM TRUCK!

Just a little history on this amazing ice cream.  A self proclaimed hippy child, Molly Moon is actually the owners real name.  Her ice creams are hand forged by herself and her team of ice cream scientists and inventors.  All her ingredients are locally grown here in Washington, and most of her ingredients are organic.
Not only is the ice cream hand made and carefully thought out, the waffle cones are actually made right there in front of you, on a small little waffle iron while you wait.  You can only imagine the heavenly smell that hits you when you walk into Molly's shop.

Get a load of these flavors!
  • Balsamic Strawberry
  • Maple Walnut
  • "Scout" Mint
  • Salted Caramel
  • Rosemary Meyer Lemon
  • Honey Lavender
  • Theo Coconut Kiss
  • Cardamom
  • Carrot Cake
My personal favorite is the Honey Lavender.  Oooohhh so yummy.  They also have seasonal flavors as well.
One thing you have to keep in mind when you make a visit to Molly Moon's is, patience is definately a virtue.  On just a normal day, the line will wrap around the corner for these tasty milky treats.

But did I mention they make your waffle cone right there while you wait?!

Now that I know they have an ice cream truck, I can get my grubby little paws on this ice cream more often.
If you're interested in trying Molly's or knowing where to find the ice cream truck, you can visit their website HERE or follow them on twitter to find out where the ice cream truck will be located next!  It's always on the move you see!

One last thing that makes me love Molly Moon's any more is their mascot, Parker Posey.  This is Molly's little pet dog, who is half French Bull Dog and half Boston Terrier.  He can sometimes be seen puttering around the shops when Molly is working.  Hes a cutie!
I may have to buy this adorable Parker Posey pillow the next time I'm in.

ELECTRA bikes is a California based company that started in 1992. They are solely responsible for re-popularizing the cruiser bike. Of course they offer many different bike designs, but I sure do love those old cruiser bikes! I pulled a few pictures of their new AMSTERDAM collection. I had such a hard time just picking a few pictures, that I just simply couldn't! There are just so many "amazing, cool, stylin, I would be the coolest kid on the block if I owned one of these" bikes to choose from. Oh, did I also mention that they have some really nifty accessories to go with it!? You can literally customize your bike from the fender to fancy handle bars, right down to personalized colored wheels! I personally love the first bike below, but I also really love the sleekness of the all black and all white... Oh so many choices.
.
Okay, enough talk. Just have fun looking at the pictures!
Which ones are your favorites?

I absolutely love this leather satchel, and its only $20!

This lady seriously sports that sleek black Electra. I love the tasseled handlebars!

Dual sided wicker saddlebags! Ooohh Yeah!

I also adore this helmet!

Surfer addition bell and bike seat.

CHANDELIERS AND GADGETS

I'm in love. I've been spending way to much of my spare time creating wishlists on my favorite web stores. I broke down and bought myself this awesome new computer bag the other day. (The website was flashing a red "ONLY ONE LEFT" sign at me and I just had a moment of weakness. I actually really need a new computer bag, so it all works out in the end right?.......
.
Well I figured I would just share a few of my must haves from MODCLOTH and IKEA
This is the new computer bag I just bought from Modcloth. I love the old typewriter print on it. So simple and fun.

I MUST OWN THIS CHANDELIER!!! OH YES, IT SHALL BE MINE!!!!

Its a tape dispenser!! I wish I had an actual desk. I would buy this right away! Alas, all my work so far is done from my lap top on the couch.

And the old fashioned camera pencil sharpener from modcloth. So fun!

I'm also in love with this Chandelier from Ikia. I'm pretty sure this will be a new bedroom addition very soon.
Cheers!!

A VINTAGE VALENTINE

Is everyone preparing for Valentines day?
.
W.H. Auden says it best I think;
"I'll love you, dear, I'll love you till China and Africa meet and the river jumps over the mountain and the salmon sing in the street."
.
Finding the right words to say to the one you love is not always the easiest task.
But here are a few fun play on words to make your love bird smile!
.
P.S. All these vintage cards are now available in my Etsy store!
Check them out! They are going fast!
All these cards have been dated from 1936
.

SOLD!

"We'll fly to the sky. Oh! How divine. If you will be my Valentine"
I just love the colors in this card! Also the little couple in the plane move side to side as well as the little heart. :O)

"It's "Plane" to see! I want you for my Valentine."
.
I love this card! Such a neat looking moon and the arm and plane are on a bracket and move up and down. I love the little German boy and girl also!

"I'm after your scalp! But don't let that WARRIOR!"
Definitely not something you would see today but that's what makes it so great!
The little door on the tepee opens and closes.

"My heart is ANCHORED fast, its yours dear Valentine."

.
Another fun one with amazing colors. I love the 1930's swanky feel to this one.
The sailor wiggles back and forth as well as the smoke stack.

"Bare chance of being your valentine? Less S-OAP you will."

.
I love the little boy in this one. He reminds me of those old cupie dolls. Well, minus the little pointed hair do. This card isn't in perfect condition, but it definitely shows some love, and that makes it even more special.
.
What plans have yall made for Valentines day?
